Boston, MA – June 15, 2009 – Intronis, a leading provider of secure online data backup, archiving and recovery solutions for service providers and businesses, today announced its auditors have approved a service auditor’s review of the company, commonly known as a SAS 70.

The SAS 70 process includes an in-depth examination and audit of the effectiveness of an organization’s internal controls and its compliance to these controls. A SAS 70 audit is very important to both public and private companies in the United States that are required to comply with the terms of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) of 2002, or face other similar regulatory requirements. The SAS 70 report addresses all five components of internal control outlined in the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation, namely the control environment, risk assessment activities, control activities, information and communication systems, and monitoring activities.

“As a Consulting and Managed Services Provider to Financial Institutions in the Midwest, Intronis has met our needs and the needs of our clients over the past three years providing the security and reliability of their remote encrypted data backup and recovery solution. ” said Ron Casteel, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “As the demands of State and Federal Regulatory Agencies have grown with regard to compliance and vendor management, we conveyed to Intronis that our clients need their vendors to be SAS 70 compliant, their response was - “we will do it” - and they have.”

“Intronis’ audit process, provides our partners and customers the assurance that internal controls are in place throughout the company, and they are suitably designed and operating effectively.” said Mark Hatch, Vice President of Development who led the SAS 70 Team. “Physical access to all our IT infrastructure, data, and network systems are secured against certain threats, and our security and internal control policies have now been evaluated and reviewed by an independent third party. This validation, along with our dual data center configuration, positions us in a class above our competition.”

Q&A with Intronis about Online Backup: History, Applications and Where It Is Going

IT Security Journal recently had a chance to sit down with online backup provider, Intronis’, CEO and co-founder, Sam Gutmann. In the late 1990s, while working as a small business consultant, Gutmann and his two colleagues discovered that many of their clients were not properly backing up their data. In 2000, the three began researching and developing a backup service that would eliminate the need for tapes, disks, and CDs and instead would offer an offsite, secure, and easy-to-use backup service. After three years of research, development, software design and testing, they launched their foundational product, eSureIT, in 2003 and Intronis Technologies was founded. Gutmann is a graduate of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Management Information Systems. Read Full Article
