The Situation
Bayotech technicians were finding themselves spending countless hours monitoring and maintaining more than 10 backup solutions. Some of these were online backup storage solutions, some were antiquated tape backup, and others used disk backup with disk-to-disk technology.
"There was simply no standard set of tasks or SOP to keep these backups running properly and efficiently; they were each a different animal and the animals were winning," Bayotech founder, president and CEO Jarrod Pittman said. "The average utilization rate for Bayotech technicians managing our backup services was about 20 percent."
The Challenge
The Bayotech team was determined to find a standardized solution to manage customer backups without breaking the bank, something to address database backups, off-site storage, reporting, and open-file backups at an affordable price.
Customers were reluctant to have their private data replicated over the Internet to a datacenter. Several of the technology companies within Bayotech's customer base had expectations that an off-site storage solution offer data encryption to secure their data. Bayotech evaluated many solutions that failed to meet the desired criteria in some way. The firm seriously considered developing our own home-grown backup system.
The Solution
"Enter Intronis – our saving grace!" Pittman said. "Not only was the online backup solution manageable and affordable, but it met our customer's demands and was brandable as well."
Bayotech's new backup service was up and running within a day.
"We were able to provide a simple backup pricing matrix to our customers quickly, as our costs were very simple and straightforward," Pittman said. "Our online backup subscriptions were selling like hotcakes! Every managed backup service customer wanted onboard – the Intronis online backup solution sold itself."
The Result
Bayotech has realized a utilization rate increase from 20 percent to approximately 90 percent for its online backup service operations, turning this previously break-even venture into a profitable new revenue stream.
Bayotech customers enjoy a more predicable monthly price associated with protecting their critical company data. Additionally, customers have been able to cancel their third-party off-site storage subscriptions.
Customers love Bayotech's new Recovery Time Objectives, as most restore operations can be performed remotely within minutes. Recovery Point Objectives are also exceeding expectations with the continuous data protection backup feature.
