The Situation

Founded in 2003 by Peter Vescovo, Island Tech Services installs and maintains networks for private businesses and fire stations throughout Long Island and the Greater New York City area. They also install and maintain the 911 dispatching software at the fire stations' 24/7 call centers. These government-run clients are audited every year and must meet specific security requirements to pass an audit.

"The commissioners are elected officials, so they need to uphold certain requirements," said Vescovo. "The big thing is to make sure their data is stored offsite to a secure location and that it's HIPAA compliant."

The Challenge

Island Tech first tried an India-based cloud backup provider. "I hosted it here," Vescovo explained. "So I had to make sure that my servers had enough storage, and my servers and network speed were running up to par. It was a lot of maintenance on my side. Managing the software was like a job in itself. Being one of the owners and dealing with the technical side of the company, I couldn't add a layer of duties."

However, the major drawbacks of partnering with that company weren't apparent until Vescovo needed their customer support. "That company's support is not in this country, "he said. "So when I ran into two big issues with my client, it took them more than six or seven hours to handle the issue."

"I wasn't able to give my clients a certain level of customer satisfaction, so basically I had to just get rid of that software. So I did a little research and I found Intronis. From there it was just basically a done deal," Vescovo continued.

The Solution

Not only did Intronis have the technical features Island Tech was looking for, the technical support and ease of use made the decision easy for Vescovo.

"The technical support being here in the United States is key. The other thing is the hosted data center, the ease of installing the program, and the turnaround time. I've done plenty of restores of files for my clients and with Intronis it just takes seconds. With that other company, it was just a nightmare even to restore data. And Intronis being able to put 200 gigs on an external drive and overnight it to me is just something that my previous cloud backup provider couldn't deliver on."

"Intronis is just easy. I look at my console every once in a while to see what everyone is backing up, we bill it out, and that's it. It really is just 1000 percent easier than my previous solution. I wish all programs were this simple and tech support were as well-versed as you guys."

The Result

"We now have one TB package," Vescovo surmised. "We're actually at the limit right now, so we're looking to expand that a little bit more. We started at 500 GB and went through that in about three months. We bring in about an extra 2k per month with cloud backup."
