Moebius Technologies
The Situation
When Moebius Technologies first added backup to their portfolio of services, they utilized a different data backup solution by storing the data in their own center. "We set up a TB server, spent $3,000 on their software, and it turned out to be just a miserable solution," said Moebius CEO and founder William Hincks. "The software wasn't very reliable—every morning we'd have to remote in and restart the software agent for about 20 percent of our clients," Hincks continued. "That doesn't give you much faith in the product that you will be able to recover when you need to—which is the whole point."
"After that rather expensive failure, we switched over to a consumer-based brand, primarily because of the name recognition—and they had good pricing." But Hincks soon discovered the company's problems with reliability.
"Systems would just constantly crash," Hincks explained. "You'd come in the next morning and you'd get an alert that the backup failed and the agent wasn't running and you have to stop all the services and kick it back off again. And we had some systems that it just wouldn't really run on properly."
"Then they moved their tech support overseas, and they just got worse."
The Solution
Moebius decided to shop around for another cloud backup provider and considered Intronis because many other similar companies, such as Pact One, "all spoke very highly of Intronis." They eventually decided to partner with Intronis because of the reliability of the product and Intronis' customer service.
"When I partner with a company, I look for somebody who's going to be responsive to my questions and needs and you don't get that with overseas support," Hincks said. "Intronis has been fantastic. The Gung Ho technical support model certainly seems to be working."
Intronis' flat rate was also appealing. "Because I'm not paying for server licenses and client licenses, and we're only paying for what's being used—that made Intronis more attractive," said Hincks. "And, I'm not paying for server licenses and client licenses, and we're not paying for uncompressed space; we're only paying for what's being used with Intronis."
The Result
Moebius had been able to increase its revenue since partnering with Intronis. "I know that it's being profitable," Hincks said. Intronis' integrated reporting has been very valuable to Moebius. "I get one email everyday that sums up all my clients as opposed to getting 40 different emails pouring into my mailbox every morning telling me what's going on. It seems like a minor thing, but it makes a big different when you're dealing with so many clients."
"With the other cloud backup company, we had to do portion out our quota. So, I'd have to assign five gigs to that person and 10 gigs to another. As they approached or exceeded that quota, I'd have to go back and allocate more space to them or their backups would stop running. It gets very complicated." Hincks explained.
"With Intronis it happens dynamically. I allocate pricing based on the range that they're in, but I still have one huge pool that all my clients are drawing from. And having the branded website is very nice and having a nice professional looking portal that I didn't have to design and that works is huge."
